Advisory Committee

How Our Structure Fits Our Purpose

The ARCBLT was formed in 2021, its trustees appointed from those of the original ARC Building Trust which was established in 2008. It comprises two trusts:

  • The ARC Building Trust, which looks after funding to protect the Club’s long-term building assets.
  • The ARC Legacy Trust, which receives donations and bequests and makes funding available for specific purposes use for the promotion of the sport of amateur rowing for The Auckland Rowing Club, in accordance with the donors’ wishes.

Both the Legacy Trust and the Building Trust are independent of the Executive Committee of The Rowing Club. We have partnered with the Auckland Foundation (AF), a Charitable Organisation with tax-exempt status. THE AF receives all donations and provides professional trustee and investment management services.

The Advisory Trustees are independent of The Clubs Executive and are the gatekeepers between your donation and The Auckland Foundation. The Auckland Foundation receives, controls, invests & disperses donations in accordance with Donors specific instructions via the Advisory Committee.

An Advisory Committee, set up under a charter which outlines its duties, oversees the allocation of funds of both trusts from the Auckland Foundation back to the Club. Henry Giese of Dentons provided the new trust deed pro-bono.

The Advisory Committee is the gate keeper of the funds and its main activities are:

  • To solicit and receive donations and bequests.
  • To channel donations to defined activities within the Club.
  • To receive and assess requests for funding from the Club and forward approvals to the Auckland Foundation.
  • To audit grants made to ensure they meet the conditions of the donor’s wishes.
  • To ensure sufficient funds remain available to meet the Club’s long-term needs.

The charter of the Advisory Committee outlines the duties of the committee. Being independent of The Club but working solely for the benefit of The Club, the Advisory Committee needed to gain a Charitable Organisation status and thus the association with our Partner, the Auckland Foundation was established.

In essence, the Advisory committee is the gate keeper of the funds and as such the main activities of the Committee is to:

  • Solicit and receive donations and bequeaths.
